There’s really nothing like a baitcasting reel. The feel, technique, and design are just some of the unique characteristics that have drawn anglers to use this style reel for decades. The innovation in the fishing industry as a whole has increased dramatically over the past few years. With this being said, a lot of new baitcasting reels have hit the market recently, so it’s only right we talk about which reels are a grand slam for 2022! Keep in mind this list includes baitcasting reels that are great for both beginner and experienced fisherman. I have personally fished each and every one of these reels myself, so I will give you my honest opinion on why I feel these deserve the top spot.
Lets get right into it, these are the 5 best baitcasting reels under $200 for 2022
1. Abu Garcia Revo STX Low Profile
This Revo STX is no joke, this is the 4th generation and honestly I really enjoy it. This reel is very durable and quite smooth. It features a brand new Gull Wing sideplate design, which is exclusive to Abu Garcia. The braking system in this reel has been completely redesigned and claims to be the strongest and most efficient gear system to date. I admit the braking system can take a little getting used to, but once figured out, this reel is smooth sailing. I would not recommend this reel for beginner baitcaster users, as the advanced braking system requires more knowledge and experience to tune in. It comes in at a price tag of $199.99, which I believe is fair for the quality of this reel. A solid overall baitcaster to add to your arsenal.
Pros
- Durability & strength
- Cast distance and control
- Advanced brake system
Cons
- Not beginner friendly
- Heavy reel
2. Shimano SLX DC
The Shimano SLX DC is by far one of my favorite baitcasting reels on the market. I feel its priced very accurately for the performance, and is a great reel for both beginner and advanced anglers. The intelligent digital control braking system is quite nice, allowing you to adjust the reel for monofilament, braid, and fluorocarbon line. It’s ease of use and strong durability have drawn many to having this reel in their army.
Pros
- Intelligent braking system
- Lightweight
- Durability
- Easy to use
Cons
- cost
3. Daiwa Tatula 100
The Daiwa Tatula 100 is something on a new level. This reel is the lightest and most compact baitcasting reel from Daiwa yet, coming in at 6.9 ounces. The cast control and distance is something fans of this reel rave about. I have to say, for such a small and compact reel, the durability is phenomenal, considering this reel is a one piece aluminum frame. As far as price goes, you can pick one of these up for $159.99. However, since this reel is so compact and light, it may be difficult for people with bigger hands to use. That is one of the downsides I personally had with this reel, but since then have adjusted and fell in love with this thing.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Compact
- One piece aluminum frame
- Cast distance with control
Cons
- Difficult for bigger hands to use
4. Kast King Royale Legend Elite
Pros
- Price
- Carbon Drag System
- Comfortable in hands
- Lightweight
Cons
- Quality of parts
5. Lews Speed Spool LFS
Another great budget friendly option, the Lews Speed Spool commands top notch speed with precision. This reel is one of the smoothest you will find for just $99.99. The design is bold and sleek in my opinion and the performance is outstanding. This speed spool is made up of machine forged aluminum, along with all the gears being custom made from solid brass. There certainly is nothing like this for the money on the market today!
Pros
- Solid brass speed gears
- Aluminum forged frame
- Design
- Price
Cons
- Longevity
